BACnet Secure Connect (BACnet/SC) is a recent update to the BACnet interoperability standard aimed at improving cybersecurity and network infrastructure integrity. BACnet/SC is defined in Annex AB of the ASHRAE 135-2020 BACnet protocol standard. BACnet/SC identifies a secure, encrypted datalink layer specifically designed to meet the requirements, policies, and constraints of IP networking infrastructures.
From Release 12.0, BACnet/SC is supported by the following components,
when these components are field-upgraded to or factory-shipped with Release 12.0
software:
- Application and Data Server (ADS), ADS-Lite, Extended Application and Data Server (ADX), and Open Application Server (OAS) series application server software
- NAE85 and LCS85 series software-based network enginesNote: You need to purchase the M4-BACNETSC-0 add-on license to use BACnet/SC on the ADS, ADS-Lite, ADX, OAS, NAE85, or LCS85.
- NAE55xx-3x, SNE, and SNC series network engines
- VMA1930, FAC4911, CGE, and CVE series IP-based equipment
controllersNote: You can upgrade existing VMA1930 units in the field to support BACnet/SC, but this model is discontinued from manufacturing.
The primary benefits of Metasys BACnet/SC
compliance include the following:
- Ensures Metasys follows the latest IT security and infrastructure protocols while still maintaining interoperability.
- Addresses many concerns that IT departments have expressed over the original BACnet/IP protocol.
