If you do not have an email service to connect to the SBH, configure an SMTP host for the alarms. The configuration is different depending on whether you want to use TLS encryption.
Option 1: To use Transport Layer Security (TLS) encryption, use the settings in Table 1.
Field | Description or Setting |
---|---|
TLS | On |
Host | smtp.gmail.com |
Port | 465 |
From Email Address | Email address for sender of message |
Site Name | Name of the site |
User Name | Google account User name |
Password | The Google App password for the account, generated in step F below. |
Note: To set up the alarm notification feature, create
a third party application username and password on Google.
Option 2: If you do not want to use TLS encryption, use the settings in Table 2.
Field | Description or Setting |
---|---|
TLS | Off |
Host | smtp.gmail.com |
Port | 587 |
From Email Address | Email address for sender of message |
Site Name | Name of the site |
User Name | Google account user name |
Password | The Google App password for the account, generated in step F below. |
Note:
- If you are using Google as an SMTP Host, you can set the DNS server in the section to the Google DNS Servers (IP addresses 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4).
- Microsoft Outlook cannot be used with TLS. TLS must be set to off.
- To set up Gmail and SBH for alarm notification complete the
following steps:
- Log on to your Google account.
- Navigate to Manage your Google account > Security.
- Turn on 2-Step Verification and navigate to App Passwords.
- Select Mail from the Select the app and device you want to generate the app password for option.
- Select Other (Custom name) from the Mail dropdown menu.
- Enter your selected name and click Generate to create app password.
- This password will be used in the Password field for Settings > Alarm Notifications. See tables 7 and 8 above. Note your app password and use it for configuration of alarm notification.
