The system bus MAC address uses a single 8-way DIP switch to set an address. The switches are binary weighted, so you can set addresses from 4 to 127. The address you select must be unique to all devices on the system bus network.
Important: When you design the
system, identify the addresses before the installation so that the rest of
the devices on the system bus do not conflict with the addresses you
select.
To set the MAC address for the system bus, complete the following steps:
- Decide the first address that you want to assign. It is best practice to set the highest switch value first, then the next highest switch. Continue in decreasing order until the total of the switch values equals the intended device address.
- Calculate the number by adding the values of the switches set to ON. For example, if switches 1, 4, and 16 are set to ON, 1 + 4 + 16 = address 21. See Figure 1.
- Use the information in Table 1 and Figure 1 to
set the addresses.
