If you do not have an email service to connect to the SBH, configure an SMTP host for the alarms. The configuration is different depending on whether you want to use TLS encryption.
Option 1: To use Transport Layer Security (TLS) encryption, use the settings in Table 1.
Field | Description or Setting |
---|---|
TLS | On |
Host | smtp.gmail.com |
Port | 465 |
From Email Address | Email address for sender of message |
Site Name | Name of the site |
User Name | Google account User name |
Password | The Google App password for the account, generated in step 7 below. |
Note: To set up the alarm notification feature, create
a third party application username and password on Google.
Option 2: If you do not want to use TLS encryption, use the settings in Table 2.
Field | Description or Setting |
---|---|
TLS | Off |
Host | smtp.gmail.com |
Port | 587 |
From Email Address | Email address for sender of message |
Site Name | Name of the site |
User Name | Google account user name |
Password | The Google App password for the account, generated in step 7 below. |
Note:
- Microsoft Outlook cannot be used with TLS. TLS must be set to off.
- To create an app password, you need 2-Step Verification configured on your Google account.
- To set up Gmail and SBH for alarm notification complete the
following steps:
- Log on to your Google account.
- Navigate to Manage your Google account > Security.
- Click 2-Step Verification.
- At the bottom of the page, click App passwords.
- Enter a name for the password that helps you remember the use for this password. For example, SBH Notifications.
- Click Create.
- In the Generate app password window, take note of the generated password. This password only appears once. If you lose this password, repeat steps 1 to 6 to generate a new password.
- Log on to the SBH and click Settings > Alarm Notifications.
- In the Password field, enter the password generated in step 6. See Table 1 and Table 2.
