Observe the following guidelines when you determine a location for, and mount, a P216 controller:
- Ensure that the mounting surface and mounting hardware can support the control and wiring.
- Mount the P216 controller upright on a vertical surface with the heat sink fins oriented vertically and the conduit or electrical holes facing down.
- Ensure that air can flow through the heat sink fins and provide 10 cm (4 in.) minimum clearance around the heat sink.

Mount the controller in a location away from sources of excessive heat and within the specified ambient operating conditions. For ambient operating conditions, see Technical specifications.
When you mount the P216 controller, leave the following clearance.
If you mount the controller in a vertical position, the enclosure retains IP 54 protection, and at 55°C ambient temperature the controller can handle 8 A maximum. If you mount the controller in a horizontal position, the enclosure does not retain IP 54 protection, and at 55°C ambient temperature the controller can handle 6 A maximum. Horizontally, the ambient temperature must not exceed 40°C in order for the controller to handle 8 A maximum.
