About this task

Ensure that the physical installation of the ZFR Pro Coordinator Radio and all the ZFR Pro Routers/Repeaters have good line-of-sight communication paths, good wired connections, and correct DIP switch settings as described in the following documents:

  • WNC1800 Wireless Network Coordinator Gateway Quick Start Guide (Part No. 24-10737-105)
  • WNC1800 Wireless Network Coordinator Gateway Installation Instructions (Part No. 24-10737-91)
  • ZFR1820/ZFR1823 Pro Wireless Field Bus Coordinator Installation Instructions (Part No. 24-10325-96)
  • ZFR1821/ZFR1822 Pro Wireless Field Bus Router-Repeater Installation Instructions (Part No. 24-10325-126)
  • WNC1800/ZFR182x Pro Series Wireless Field Bus System Technical Bulletin (LIT-12012356)

Pay special attention to these points:

  • Mount all ZFR Pro devices in the same horizontal plane where possible, preferably just above the ceiling panels. See Figure 1, Figure 2, and Figure 3.
Figure 1. Mount ZFR Pro Routers/Repeaters in the Same Horizontal Plane Below Pipes, Duct Work, or Metal Obstructions—OK Configuration

Figure 3. Mount ZFR Pro Routers/Repeaters in the Same Horizontal Plane Below Pipes, Duct Work, or Metal Obstructions—Best Configuration

  • Mount TEC3000's and WRZ Sensors about 1.5m (5 ft) above the floor and away from metal and solid obstructions (including equipment rooms, elevator shafts, and concrete or brick walls).
  • For best signal transmission, vertically orient the ZFR Pro Router/Repeater or the ZFR Pro Coordinator Radio with at least 50 mm (2 in.) exposed below (and clear of) any pipes, duct work, or other metal obstructions.

When mounting the conduit mount style ZFR Pro Router/Repeater or the ZFR Pro Coordinator Radio to an enclosure; mount it to the top, bottom, or side of the enclosure, See Figure 4, Figure 5, and Figure 6.

  • Do not mount the ZFR Pro devices,TEC3000, or WRZ Sensors in recessed areas, metal enclosures, or shelving units.
  • Avoid configurations where a microwave oven is located between two wireless devices. Avoid locating the ZFR Pro device near areas that may contain a microwave oven, such as an employee break area or cafeteria. At a minimum, ensure that no microwave ovens are within 6 m (20 ft) of a ZFR Pro device.
  • Locate all the ZFR Pro devices on the same floor.
  • Follow local ordinances for the installation of Class 2 power supplies.
