About this task

Note: If you have installed a version of SQL Server 2022, SQL 2019 or SQL 2017 software, Management Tools are not installed automatically.

Procedure

  1. Go to the License Portal.
  2. Navigate to Branch Tools (2.8 GB) > Branch Tools (2.8 GB) > OEM (1.0 GB) > Microsoft (1.0 GB) > SQL Server Management Studio (898.1 MB) > 16.5.3 (898.1 MB).
  3. Download SQL Server Management Studio.
  4. Using Windows File Explorer, browse to the download location of SQL Management Studio. Double-click on SSMS-Setup-ENU.exe and select Run as Administrator.
    An Open File - Security Warning dialog box may appear, click Run to permit the installation to continue. A User Access Control dialog box may appear. Click Yes to proceed.
  5. Click Install. A progress screen appears. After installation is complete, you may be prompted to restart.
  6. Click Restart.
    After restart, SQL Server Management Studio is available for use.
