About this task
You use background file transfer (BFT) functionality when you perform a download to Release 10.1 network engines. When you use BFT, a network engine can remain online and active throughout the download process. Updates that you include in a download are not applied until after you activate the downloaded files. You can choose to activate the downloaded files automatically after the download completes, or to activate them manually.
For SNCs you can also control whether, after you activate the downloaded files, you enable or disable the logic on the SNC.
To control the activation of network engines, complete the following steps:
Procedure
- Start the process to perform a download and proceed to the Transfer Summary page. For more information, see How do I transfer logic files from SCT Pro to a field controller (download)?
- In the Information section, click Change.
-
In the Activation section, choose one of the following
options:
- To automatically activate the downloaded files after the download completes, click After Transfer. The network engine restarts and applies the downloaded files.
- To download files but not activate them, click Wait for manual activation. To manually activate files after the download completes, use the SMP to issue an Apply staged files command.
- Optional:
If the selection of devices that you perform a download to
includes an SNC, choose one of the following options in the Activation section:
- To enable the SNC logic after the download activates, click Enable Logic.
- To disable the SNC logic after the download activates, click Disable Logic.
- Make any additional changes that you require, and then click Apply to return to the summary page.
- Depending on your choices, click Transfer Now or Schedule Transfer.
