Feature Benefit
FIPS 140-2 compliant FIPS 140-2 is a U.S. government cyber security standard used to approve cryptographic modules and algorithms used for encryption.
Support of IT standards and Internet technologies You can install the Open Application Server on your existing IT infrastructure within the building or enterprise and is compatible with industry-standard firewalls.
Secure user access Authenticates users and authorizes access privileges to protect system integrity, and is fully compatible with the Microsoft Active Directory® service.
Flexible system navigation and dynamic user graphics Compatibility with Metasys UI enables the customization of system presentation for different users to enhance information access and facilitate system operation.
Alarm and event management Generate alarms based on user-defined criteria. Send alarm and event messages to web browsers, email servers, and Network Management Systems. Store and view alarm and event logs on the OAS. The OAS also creates an audit trail for later detailed analysis.
Field equipment network management and integration The OAS provides multiple methods to integrate field devices:
  • Remote Field Bus: the OAS can integrate BACnet MS/TP devices such as Metasys FEC, FAC, VMA, TEC, CVM, and CGM series equipment controllers and third-party BACnet MS/TP devices with a BACnet/IP to MS/TP router.
  • BACnet/IP: the OAS can integrate BACnet/IP devices, which includes Metasys FAC4911 series IP equipment controllers, Metasys CGE and CVE IP controllers, Simplex Fire System controls, and third-party BACnet/IP devices like Cree or Molex lighting systems with a switch or hub.
  • BACnet/SC: the OAS can integrate BACnet/SC devices, which includes MS-NAE5510-3, NAE8500 as site director, SNx devices, FAC4911, VMA1930, CGEs, and CVEs.
  • VND: the OAS can integrate the following brands of devices:
    • Modbus TCP devices with a switch or hub.
    • OPC UA devices with a switch or hub.
    • M-Bus devices with an M-Bus IP level converter.
Enhanced scheduling Automatically command mechanical or electrical equipment to a required operational state, for example, On or Off, Occupied or Unoccupied, Economy or Comfort, based on a user-defined schedule. You can set operating parameters according to the time of day, days of the week, holidays, or calendar dates.
Fire panel and lighting control integration Provides access to and control over lighting groups in Cree or Molex lighting systems, and monitored points in Simplex fire alarm systems, that enable more efficient interactions without overwhelming the engine with a large number of points.
Network-wide system interlocking Collects data from field devices, makes logical comparisons between the data, and issues relevant commands to other field devices, anywhere on the network.
Transaction recording Audits and logs all user actions performed through the OAS. Operators can review these logs to understand what changes have been made to the system, who made them, and when.
Totalization Calculate rolling sums of any monitored data point value stream. Use this information to monitor runtime information, which is useful for service, maintenance, and early identification of building system problems.
Optimal start Automatically determine the best time to start heating and cooling systems to ensure that the facility is conditioned for occupancy. The OAS adjusts to seasonal variations and reduces energy use.
Demand limiting load rolling (DLLR) Monitor energy meters that include electricity, gas, steam, or water, and automatically shed equipment loads according to user-defined levels. Demand Limiting helps manage utility demand charges, and Load Rolling controls equipment operating levels to reduce total energy consumption. Comfort overrides prioritize equipment shedding.
RESTful APIs The Metasys API provides easy access for you to pull raw data from the server into your own processing and analytic mechanisms, such as PowerBI® and Tableau®, and supports both historical data fetching and gathering information about the site and all of its child elements. Additionally, the Metasys Monitoring and Commanding API enables reading, writing, and commanding of one or more Metasys objects or properties to provide a secure and cost-effective way to bi-directionally integrate with third-party applications. From version 4 of the API, you can sign up for value changes on objects, which reduces the need for polling.
Fault Detection and triage Fault Detection identifies and lists building system-related faults in order of severity to help operators quickly fix issues and avoid equipment issues, energy waste, and comfort complaints. Fault triage is an add-on to fault detection that helps less experienced operators with guided assistance to independently resolve issues. It provides operators with fault duration, occurrence information to improve fault prioritization, and corrective action recommendations by likeliness to resolve issues quickly.
Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) 802.1X compliance 802.1X is an IEEE standard for Port-Based Network Access Control (PNAC) and provides protected authentication for secure network access. An IEEE 802.1X network has an authentication RADIUS server included. This server checks a user's credentials. IEEE 802.1X allows unique credentials or certificates to be used for each user which eliminates the reliance on a single network password that can easily be stolen. From Metasys Release 14.0, the ADS and ADX are IEEE 802.1X compliant.
Internet Protocol version 6 (IPv6) support IPv6 is the most recent version of the Internet Protocol (IP). From Metasys Release 14.0, the SNE and SNC engines are able to concurrently use the IPv4 and IPv6 protocols. The capability to support both protocols facilitates the incremental migration of all devices on a site to IPv6.
