Modbus is one of the most common communication protocols used in the industry. It is openly published and royalty-free, making it relatively easy to deploy for an industrial network. Modbus transmits raw bits, or words without placing many restrictions on vendors. Metasys Network engines support both Modbus RTU (RS-485, RS-232) and Modbus TCP/IP connectivity. The OAS uses the default network interface and supports Modbus TCP/IP only.
