About this task

Important: If the current time on the network engine and a Site Director differs, several problems can occur. If the time difference is greater than five minutes, the device may go offline or never report online to the Site Director. If the time difference is minor, reported alarm sequences or trend data may be out of sync.

The Metasys network manages time synchronization if the network engine is able to successfully report to the Site Director. If the network engine is unable to report to the Site Director, connect to the network engine and synchronize the time manually. The Set Date and Time capability is only available to network engines that are running a Windows Embedded OS.

To synchronize the time between the network engine and your computer:

Procedure

  1. Load the NCT on the server on which you want the time in the network engine synchronized, such as on an ADS or an ADX Site Director.
  2. Start the NCT.
  3. Connect to the network engine.
  4. Verify that the current time on the computer is correct.
  5. Select the Tools tab in the NCT.
  6. Click Set Date and Time. When the date/time setup is successful, the Connection Activity pane displays Date and Time set successfully.
Note: The Set Date and Time command sends a time and date change command from the computer to the network engine in UTC format.
