About this task

Important: To upgrade from any previous release prior to Release 12.0, you must uninstall the NAE85 software before you can install Release 12.0. Be sure to generate a backup of your SCT database before you complete the upgrade.
Important: At Release 12.0, the NAE85 functions as a Site Director but not as a child device. To keep a NAE85 as a child device, do not upgrade it to Release 12.0.
Important: A new install of an NAE85 or an upgrade of an NAE85 requires Microsoft™ SQL Server. If you install or upgrade an NAE85 on the Microsoft Server Operating System (OS), you need the standard or enterprise edition of SQL Server and an SQL license. If you install or upgrade an NAE85 on your Windows 10 OS, SQL Server Express is loaded for you as part of the install if no other SQL Server instance is installed.
Important: The Advanced Security Enabled feature indicates whether the site uses the advanced security settings. This attribute provides an improved layer of security between Metasys Site Directors and devices. With this attribute set to true, backward-compatible methods of communication between the Site Director and its network engines are disabled, which means a Site Director at Release 10.0 or later discards all communication attempts from network engines prior to Release 10.0. At Release 11.0 and later, the Advanced Security Enabled attribute is defaulted to True. This setting applies to the entire site, so change this attribute to False if you have any network engines prior to Release 10.0. When you change this attribute to True, a user message appears to indicate that all network engines prior to Release 10.0 remain online, but are disconnected from the site because they no longer communicate with the Site Director. If this message appears, click OK to continue and set the attribute to True, or Cancel to keep the attribute set to False.

Procedure

  1. Power on the NAE85 and computer monitor.
  2. If you have only one network card, go to the next step. If you have two or more network cards, before installing or upgrading the NAE85 software, view the Configuring additional network cards instructions.
Note: For an NAE85, there may be a requirement to run Metasys on a lower priority Network Interface Card (NIC). In cases like this, you must manually modify the N50.ini file to use the lower priority NIC as you do not get the option at install to choose the NIC.
  3. Connect Port 1 to an active switch to obtain a valid IP address.
  4. Download the software installation files, and copy the file contents to the desired location. Ensure you copy the entire folder contents, including the .data file, or the install will fail.
  5. To install the software to the default location, click Install and go to step 10, or click Custom to select a custom installation location.
  6. In the Database tab, complete the following:
    1. In the SQL Instance field, select localhost from the list. This uses the local SQL Server instance on the current machine.
    2. If you want to use Windows® authentication instead of SQL authentication, select the Use Windows Authentication check box. This disables the Username and Password fields required for SQL authentication.
  7. In the General tab, complete the following:
    1. In the Install Path field, accept the default installation path, or click Browse to select a custom installation location for the NAE85.
    2. In the Third Party Install Path, click Browse for the location of the component. Third-party components include Erlang/OTP and RabbitMQ. For more information on their paths, see Specifying Custom Locations for Metasys Server Application and Databases section in Metasys Server Installation and Upgrade Instructions (LIT-12012162)
  8. Click Install. A progress bar displays the progress of the installation.
  9. Click Finish.
Important: You must license your NAE85 software after installation and then restart your machine for the license to take effect. Go to Licensing the NAE85.
