Use the Win Prep-for utility to verify the Project Contract Folder settings, including the current path definitions of the Metasys PMI and the location of the project folder. You can locate the DDL and GPL file locations on the computer once you know the location of the Metasys PMI and the project folder network path.
Refer to the Win Prep-for Utility Technical Bulletin (LIT-1201656) for more information about the Win Prep-for utility.
- Upload the NC database for the NCM with the VMA14xx controller.
- Perform a backup of the Metasys database. Refer to the Saving and Restoring Databases section in the Operator Workstation User’s Manual (LIT-120165) for detailed instructions.
To launch the Win Prep-for utility:
- On the Windows Start menu, click. (If you are using Windows 8 or Windows Server 2012, begin to type
Win Prep-for from the Start screen, and then select Win Prep-for from the Apps
results.) The Win Prep-for utility opens to the Select Project Contract Folder

Note the locations where the project settings reside. The current project settings field displays whether or not the Metasys PMI is installed and if it is installed, its current path. Typically, the project settings are located in C:\FMS\DATA\<network name> or C:\Project\<contract number>\<network name>.
In Figure 1, the FMS Data path is located in C:\FMS\DATA\<network name>.
Once you confirm that the Metasys PMI is installed and locate its current file path, you can locate the DDL and GPL files on the computer.
