Number Name Description
1 Export icon Exports the trend samples shown in the Trend widget to a .csv file or .pdf file.
Note: Export functionality is not available on a tablet or phone. In the .pdf file export, the graph is displayed, but the data does not get plotted.
2 Calendar icon Click to select a time range for displaying the trend samples.

The icon is disabled when there are no points (trend series) selected to display. This can occur when no points are added to the trend study or when none of the points in the trend study are selected to be visible.

3 Split Graph icon Add or remove a second analog graph to split the y-axis to see values of similar ranges on different graphs.
4 Line Graph View icon Displays the trend samples in a line graph.
5 Bar Graph View icon Displays the trend samples in a bar graph. The bar graph view is available for analog (numeric) points only.
6 Candlestick Graph View icon This icon is always disabled in the Trend Study widget.
7 Settings icon This icon is always disabled in the Trend Study widget.
8 Range link Displays the configured range for the trend study. Click the range value to edit the start and end of the range. You can use exact dates and times for the range, or specify relative times by choosing Today or Now, and then selecting an offset as a number of days, hours, and minutes. When you change this value, it saves in the trend study and modifies the trend study's configured attributes.
9 Now Showing Indicates when an alternative time range is shown instead of the configured range. This field updates whenever you select a different time range option from the Calendar icon's dropdown list.
10 Change Points icon Click to display a pane where you can complete the following tasks:
  • Add points to a trend study.
  • If you are logged on to Metasys UI on an engine, you can remove points from a trend study.
  • Clear all of the points from a trend study.
  • Select points that are visible on a trend study.
Note: Adding, removing, and clearing points modifies the trend study’s configuration but changing the visibility of the points does not.
11 Pan and Zoom Bar Zoom in or out in the trend graph by dragging the left or right date and time markers. When zoomed in, scroll to pan to an earlier or later date and time.
Note: The pan and zoom bar is not available on tablets or phones. Use pinch-to-zoom gestures to zoom in or out.
12 Short Name and Equipment Name Displays the short name of the point for which the samples are being displayed in the trend graph.
13 Trend Legend Displays what point each trend series correlates to. The legend includes the short name of the point, the equipment the point resides on, the line marker and color, and a triangle icon (if the point or equipment is disabled).

Tap or click on specific trend legend to highlight the trend series on the trend graph. Doing so also changes the y-axis to reflect that trend series' unit of measure.

You can move points between the two graphs by dragging the drag icon in the legend.

14 X-axis Displays the date and time when the trend samples were taken.
15 Y-axis When viewing analog (numeric) points, binary points, and multi-state points in the same trend graph, the y-axis splits to show the analog point unit of measure on the top portion of the graph and the binary or multi-state point unit of measure on the bottom portion of the graph. Shows the unit of measure and scale of the selected trend series. The y-axis changes depending on the trend series that is selected. On initial load, the y-axis displays the unit of measure and scale of the first trend series available.
16 Calendar icon dropdown Lists the time range options you can choose from for showing the trend samples: Last Day, Last 7 Days, Last 30 Days, Last 12 Months, All Time, Custom Range, and Configured Range.

The Trend Study widget defaults to showing trend samples for the trend study's configured range. If you choose any other option, you can restore the default display by choosing the Configured Range option.

What is the Trend Study widget? How does it differ from the other Trend widgets?

For Metasys UI on servers, the Trend Study widget replaces the Trend widget (Default Trend) on the Equipment dashboard, Building Network dashboard, Space dashboard, and Views when you view and interact with existing trend study objects. When you use Trend Study Manager, you can view and interact with newly created trend studies on the Equipment dashboard and Space dashboard, but not on the Building Network or Views dashboards. You can also create trend studies directly in the Network tree. When you select a trend study in the Network tree, the Trend Study widget displays in the Network dashboard.

The layout of the Default Trend widget and the Trend Study widget is almost identical. The following are the main differences between the Default Trend widget and the Trend Study widget:
  • The Settings icon is always disabled on the Trend Study widget. On the Default Trend widget, you can use this icon to switch between Raw Data and Aggregate Data.
  • The Candlestick Graph icon is always disabled on the Trend Study widget.

Who can access the Trend Study widget?

All users can view the Trend Study widget without any special authorization or licensing. However, you require authorization for the object, space, or equipment that you want to view.

How many trend extensions can I view in the Trend Study widget?

You can view a maximum of 10 trend extension at a time on a desktop platform, with 50,000 samples per trend point. You can view a maximum of four trend extensions on a tablet or phone, with 6,000 samples per trend point.

How do I view a trend study?

Trend studies that were created through the Trend Study Manager or Custom Trend appear in the Space and Equipment dashboards for any associated spaces and equipment. If the trend study is not assigned to any spaces or equipment, you can view the trend study directly in Trend Study Manager.

Trend studies created through Trend Study Manager or Custom Trend that have been added to a user navigation tree folder appear in the Network dashboard for that folder when you select it in Views.

For trend studies created through the Network tree, you can view the trend study by selecting it from the Network tree. If these trend studies are added to a user navigation tree, they can also be viewed through Views by selecting the trend study from the user navigation tree.

How do I create a trend study?

There are different methods for creating and managing trend studies using Metasys UI depending on your type of Metasys site and how you want to use the trend studies.

Trend studies can be created and managed using the Trend Study Manager or through the Network tree. They can also be created from the Custom Trend viewer. All methods are available when you use Metasys UI on a Metasys server, NAE85, or LCS85 device. If you use Metasys UI on an SNx engine, you can create and manage trend studies through only the Network tree.

How do I change a time range for a Trend Study?

A Trend Study has a configured range. You can edit the configured range and also view a different range without affecting the configured range.

  • Trend Study Range link: use to change the configured range for a trend study. You can use exact dates and times for the range, or specify relative times by choosing Today or Now, and then selecting an offset as a number of days, hours, and minutes.
