On an MVE site, you can view and act on alarms and audits using the System Activity feature. You can also view and act on alarms in the Alarm Notification Bar.
Note: When you use a supported web browser to access Metasys UI on a child engine that is configured with Is Validated set to True, you are not allowed to discard any audits, and you are not allowed to acknowledge or discard any alarms through System Activity or the Alarm Notification Bar. You can perform these actions only through the Site Director.

Alarm Notification Bar: provides similar functionality on an MVE site as for a non-MVE site with differences described below. For more information, see Alarm Notification Bar.

When you acknowledge or discard an alarm from the Alarm Notification Bar, you are prompted for MVE validation if the alarm requires an MVE annotation and/or MVE electronic signature.

Additionally, for MVE sites, the Alarm Notification Bar includes a System Activity icon, rather than an Alarm Manager icon, since Alarm Manager is available on only non-MVE sites. Clicking the icon opens System Activity.

Alarm Monitor, Alarm Manager, and Alarm List: The Alarm Monitor and Alarm Manager features are available on only non-MVE sites. For more information, see Alarm Manager and Alarm Monitor. Similarly, for mobile phones, the Alarm List feature is available only on non-MVE sites. For more information, see Alarms on smartphones (Alarms list).

Use System Activity or the Alarm Notification Bar to view and act on alarms on an MVE site.

System Activity: provides similar functionality on an MVE site as for a non-MVE site, with the differences described below. For more information, see System Activity.

The annotations icons in System Activity indicate any cases where one or more MVE annotations or MVE electronic signatures exist for an audit or alarm. This includes cases where non-MVE annotations also exist in addition to the MVE annotations or signatures.
Table 1. Annotations icons
Symbol Description
One or more MVE annotations or MVE signatures exist. This icon appears even if one or more non-MVE annotations also exist.
One or more standard (non-MVE) annotations exist and no MVE annotations or signatures exist.

When you view the annotations for an audit or alarm, System Activity lists any MVE annotation and MVE electronic signature information along with any non-MVE annotations that exist for that audit or alarm.

When you use System Activity to discard one or more audits, alarms, or a combination of audits and alarms, you are prompted for MVE validation if an MVE annotation or MVE electronic signature is required for at least one of the selected alarms or audits. You are not prompted for any non-MVE annotations. For details, see System Activity and MVE and non-MVE Annotations for MVE on Metasys UI.

Similarly, when you acknowledge one or more alarms, you are prompted for MVE validation as required, but are not prompted for any non-MVE annotations.

For annotations on alarms, you can separately add non-MVE annotations to one or more audits, alarms, or a combination of audits and alarms, if you have permission to do so.
Note: After a bulk action on a large number of items in System Activity, you may experience one or more of the following:
  • A delay in annotation icon updates
  • A delay in activity icon status updates
  • The Metasys UI becomes unresponsive for a time
  • The System Activity feature does not properly display after selecting a new tab

If you experience any of the issues listed above, wait for 10 to 20 seconds after any bulk operation such as bulk annotation, acknowledge, or discard. If the issues do not resolve after a short time, refresh your browser.

Audible Alarms: The Audible Alarms feature in Metasys UI provides the same functionality on an MVE site as on a non-MVE site. Refer to Metasys UI Features on an MVE Site for more information.
