From Metasys Release 13.0, Metasys UI is available on SNC and SNE (SNx) series network engines with desktop, tablet, and smartphone devices. On SNx engines, Metasys UI replaces Site Management Portal UI (SMP), which is no longer directly accessible on these devices. If you require SMP for these engines, follow a manual process to install the appropriate SMP version for use by Metasys Launcher. For instructions, see the Launcher page at https://www.johnsoncontrols.com/buildings/specialty-pages/metasys-launcher.
Note: Metasys UI is not available for NxE engines, because those engine models are available only with Metasys releases earlier than Release 13.0. SNx engines at earlier releases use SMP and do not use Metasys UI.

An engine-only site that uses Metasys UI with an SNx Site Director functions the same as a site that uses Metasys UI with a Metasys Server Site Director, with a few exceptions. Certain features are available only on Metasys Servers or provide slightly different functionality for engine-only sites. When you use a supported web browser to access Metasys UI on a child SNx, the functionality is the same as when you log on to an SNx Site Director, with the exception of any site-level functionality.

Metasys UI feature differences between servers and SNx engines

Certain features are available in Metasys UI only on servers. For features that are available for both servers and engines, there are some differences in functionality. The following table describes the differences in availability and functionality between engines and Metasys Servers, and explains any available alternatives for engine-only sites.

Table 2. Feature differences between Metasys UI on servers and SNx engines
Metasys UI feature Description of differences Alternatives for engine-only sites
BACnet/SC Management Available in Metasys UI only on servers. Use BACnet/SC Management in JCT.
Spaces and Equipment navigation and related features Available in Metasys UI only on servers and cannot be configured for SNx devices that are Site Directors. The following features that are specific to Spaces and Equipment are available only on servers:

Additionally, Spaces and Equipment filters and information in various features are present in Metasys UI only on servers.

Use the Network tree and Views to navigate to objects and then command objects and view their details in the Network Dashboard.
Filter information in Metasys UI features by Network item or other criteria.
Note: Configure user navigation trees for Views through SCT.
Graphics Manager Available in Metasys UI only on servers. Use Graphics Manager in JCT and then use SCT to sync or download the engine.
Alarm Manager Alarm Manager and Alarm Monitor, Alarm Summary, Alarm rollups, and the icon to access Alarm Manager from the Alarm Notification Bar are available in Metasys UI only on servers. Use System Activity to view and manage alarm occurrences.

On engines, the Alarm Notification Bar provides an icon to access System Activity. You can also access System Activity through the User menu.

Alarm Notification Bar The Alarm Notification Bar has an icon to access Alarm Manager for Metasys UI only on servers, and has an icon to access System Activity in Metasys UI on engines.

For MVE sites, there are additional differences when the Alarm Notification Bar is accessed through Metasys UI on a validated engine. For more information, see Alarms and audits for MVE on Metasys UI.

Other than the icon for System Activity Alarms instead of Alarm Manager, the Alarm Notification bar functionality on an engine is the same as for a server.
Alarm Monitor Alarm Monitor, which displays current alarms without requiring a logged on user, is available in Metasys UI for only servers. Log on and monitor alarms through System Activity.
Alarm List (mobile) An icon to access the Alarm List feature is available on a smartphone for Metasys UI only on servers. Metasys UI on engines provides an icon to access System Activity from a smartphone. Use System Activity Alarms to view and manage alarms on smartphone devices.
System Activity In Metasys UI only on servers, use System Activity to add annotations to alarms and audits in addition to any system annotations for actions on alarms and audits.

For MVE sites, there are additional differences when System Activity is accessed through Metasys UI on a validated engine. For more information, see Alarms and audits for MVE on Metasys UI.

System Activity on an engine includes only system annotations for acknowledged alarms.
Trend Study Manager Available in Metasys UI only on servers. This includes associating trend studies to spaces, equipment, and certain network items. Create trend studies from the Network tree and view and edit the trend studies in the Trend Study widget. Use SCT to include trend studies in user views.

Trend study exports from Metasys UI on engines are raw data only. See Trend studies in the Network tree.

Advanced Search & Reporting, Report Generation from Search Results Report generation from search results is available in Metasys UI only on servers.

On the Search tab, this includes the Create Report action for search results.

On the Reports tab, this includes the Saved From Search tab, which can save report templates and schedule recurring reports for delivery to email addresses or network locations.

Use the Export feature to save the search results to a CSV file.
Data Export In Metasys UI only on servers, search results, summaries, and various other Metasys UI features include the ability to export data in CSV and PDF formats. In Metasys UI on engines, data export is available in only CSV format. Export data in CSV format.
Cyber Health Dashboard Available in Metasys UI for only servers. Use various features in Metasys UI to manually check on the health of an engine-only site.

Security analysis: run the User Account base report and use the User Management Feature to review user account settings and statuses.

System status/engine details: use SCT to set up a user navigation view that contains the engines on the site, along with a summary definition to provide a tailored summary of engine information. View the site object to check its Advanced Security attribute. To check the certificate expiration date for an engine, use your browser’s built-in functionality for viewing certificate and security information for a website, if your browser supports it. Consult documentation for your browser version for instructions.

User activity: use System Activity to review audits for successful and unsuccessful logons, and to check for any audits or alarms for locked out users.

Involvement Widget Available in the Network dashboard when you view a network object in Metasys UI only on servers. Use JCT to view the Involvement widget for an object.

In Metasys UI, manually review object configurations to determine how they are controlled by or control other objects through writes or commands.

Remote Notifications Available in Metasys UI for both servers and engines. Metasys UI on engines includes only DDA type notifications, such as email, SMP, and Syslog. Announcement type notifications are supported only on servers. Use Remote Notifications to configure engine DDAs. For mass communication to Metasys users, such as scheduled downtime announcements, use a separate email application to notify users.
Help In Metasys UI on a server, the Metasys UI Help is available through the User menu because the Help is installed on the server. In Metasys UI on an SNx engine, the Metasys UI Help is available through the User menu only if your browser has an Internet connection. To access Help from the User menu, use a web browser.

If your browser cannot connect to the Internet, use a browser on a different device that is connected to the Internet, and navigate to the following address: https://docs.jci.com/JohnsonControls/Metasys-UI-Help
