  1. Open the SQL Server Configuration Manager tool from the Microsoft SQL Server program group. If that application is missing from the Start menu, run SQLServerManager13.msc (SQL 2016), SQLServerManager14.msc (SQL 2017), or SQLServerManager15.msc (SQL 2019) to start it manually.
Note: If you do not see any version of Microsoft SQL Server on your computer, you do not have the required software.
  2. On the left pane, select SQL Server Services. On the right pane, double-click the SQL Server instance name.
  3. Click the Advanced tab and scroll down to the Version row.
  4. If the version matches any of the listed version numbers, you have a supported version of SQL Server or SQL Server Express software. Verify that the version number is any one of the following or later versions:
    • 15.0.4188.2: SQL Server® 2019 with CU19 (64-bit)
    • 14.0.3421.10: SQL Server® 2017 with CU31 (64-bit)
    • 13.0.5888.11: SQL Server® 2016 with SP3 GDR (64-bit)
Note: The SQL Server versions listed here are the minimum supported versions for this release.
  5. If the version does not match any of these version numbers or later, you need to either apply the required service pack or upgrade to a newer version of SQL Server or SQL Server Express software. Follow the instructions in the SQL Server Install and Upgrade Installation Instructions (LIT-12012240) for installing a supported version of SQL Server software.
