You define the path in two parts. You define the first part in the topic definition tab, see Figure 1. This forms the root part of the final path seen in the broker. After you complete configuring the topic definition tab, you can define the topic sub-path in the point/payload definition tab. Definition of the topic sub-path is not mandatory, as you can map Metasys items directly to the root path. However, you can define the topic sub-path in the point/payload definition tab to help you create a clearer structure of your topics.
Important: Support for sub-paths and the depth of the sub-paths
you can create depends on the broker that you use.
Consider the following rules when you define the path definition:
- Use the / symbol as a level separator. For example, Building01/Floor02.
- Do not use the $ symbol at the start of the path definition.
- Do not use the # symbol in the path definition.
