About this task

Assumption: You want to install a new IP equipment controller and then enable BACnet/SC on the IP equipment controller. You install the IP equipment controller and it connects to the network. As BACnet/SC is enabled on the site, none of the supervisory devices are currently supporting BACnet/IP. The IP equipment controller communicates through BACnet/IP as its factory default. The site meets the requirements described in Minimum site requirements to use BACnet/SC.

Prerequisites: BACnet integration was added to the supervisory devices that you want to integrate the IP equipment controllers with.

Procedure

  1. Set the communication mode of the supervisory device to Dual SC and IP Mode. See Setting the communication mode for details.
  2. Add the new IP equipment controller to the BACnet integration of the supervisory device with the Create Item wizard in Metasys UI or JCT. Refer to Creating and deleting objects in Metasys UI Help (LIT-12011953) or Johnson Controls System Configuration Tool (JCT) Help (LIT-12012116) .
Important: If the new IP equipment controller to add is on a different subnet than the engine it is being integrated into, you must set up BBMDs, so that the engine can discover the IP equipment controller. When the device is integrated and Secure Connect Only is enabled, the BBMDs are no longer needed.
  3. Use the BACnet/SC Management feature in Metasys UI or JCT to add an operational certificate to the new IP equipment controller.
  4. Set the communication mode of the IP equipment controller to Secure Connect Only Mode. See Setting the communication mode for details.
  5. When the new IP equipment controller successfully communicates through BACnet/SC, you can optionally set the communication mode of the supervisory device to Secure Connect Only Mode. See Setting the communication mode for details.
Note: It may take a few minutes for BACnet/SC communication to be established on the IP equipment controller. If the IP equipment controller cannot communicate with the Primary Hub the first time you enable BACnet/SC, the IP equipment controller reverts back to BACnet/IP automatically.
