With the block and index rate structure schedule, you can forecast utility types purchased at a discounted block price. If your consumption exceeds the initial block size, then any additional consumption are calculated using the index rate for that utility type. There are different types of Block and Index (B&I) utility rate structures for different utility resource types, including energy blocks, around the clock power blocks, and load following power blocks. CUP currently supports energy consumption blocks over a monthly time period using the Energy Block and Index rate structure type. Certain types of power block and index structures can be modeled by creating multiple electric rate structures and using demand constraints for when they should be applied.

About this task

To set up an energy block and index rate structure, complete the following steps:

  1. In the Future Inputs tab, in the Manual Inputs section, select Utility Pricing.
  2. Select a utility type from the drop-down list.
  3. Select Energy Block and Index from the drop-down list. If block and index is not listed, click Add Bill Component.
    1. In the Add Bill Component window, in the Bill Component Name field, enter a name.
    2. From the Select Bill Component list, select Block and Index, and click Save.
  4. Click Add Block and Index Rate Structure Schedule.
  5. In the Schedule Name field, enter a name.
  6. Select a start date and time, and an end date and time. Enter a reason for the schedule, and click Schedule.
The schedule for block and index appears green in the time line indicating that it is effective.
  7. To set a block size and rate, click Set Block Size/Rate.
  8. In the Block Size field, enter a value.
  9. In the Block Rate field, enter a value.
  10. Select a start date and time, and an end date and time. Enter a reason for changing the block size and rate, and click Save.
  11. In the Block Buffer Size, Index Purchase Markup, and Index Sell Back Markup fields, enter the appropriate values.
