You can use the Optimizing by menu option to tailor the Plant Optimizer to help you reach goals or objectives, such as greenhouse gas emission reductions or utility cost savings. You can use this option to enter or update the financial value of carbon emissions used in the optimization. To update the value of carbon in the Admin user, select Commissioning, and select the Solver Parameters tab.
-
In the navigation bar, use the Optimizing by option to toggle between the three options:
- Utility Cost
- Utility Cost & Greenhouse Gas Emissions
- Greenhouse Gas Emissions
-
In the Switch Optimization Objective window, select the optimization that you want to change to.
Table 1. Switching the optimization objective Name Description Minimize Utility Cost Optimization by the utility cost only.
Minimize Utility Cost and Greenhouse Gas Emissions Optimization by both the utility cost and the cost of carbon. The user-defined value of avoided emissions ($/metric tonne CO2e) determines the weighting between utility cost and carbon. The optimization objective function is to minimize total $.
Minimize Greenhouse Gas Emissions Optimization by the value of greenhouse gas emissions (carbon) associated with utility usage, based on site-specific emission factors for each supplier and a user-defined value of avoided emissions ($/metric tonne CO2e).
- In the Value of Carbon field, enter a value in $/kg CO2e. The value of carbon is the greenhouse gas emissions (carbon) value associated with utility usage, based on site-specific emission factors for each supplier and a user-defined value of avoided emissions ($/metric tonne CO2e).
- In the Notes area, enter a note of why you are changing the optimization objective.
- Click Switch objective. A message displays to confirm the configuration.
During the next dispatch, the updated carbon value is included in the optimization.
