Discover data points from a Johnson Controls ADS/ADX data collector so that you can configure OpenBlue Enterprise Manager.

About this task

Note: If you want to use PPT to configure a site, you must not use this method to discover Johnson Controls data points. You must use the auto-configuration feature in the Professional Productivity Tool. For more information about using auto-configuration, see the Auto-configuration section in OpenBlue Enterprise Manager Configuration Guide (LIT-12012432).

Procedure

  1. In the Data Collector configuration interface, navigate to the Device/Point tab.
  2. In the Data source type drop-down list, select Metasys for a hardware data collector or Metasys API for a software data collector.
  3. In the Data source drop-down list, select the data source.
  4. In the Sync check boxes, select the engines that you want to discover points for.
    Note: If you deselect an engine, EM cannot receive any data from the engine's data points.
  5. At the bottom of the screen, click Discover points. If you have a large number of points, this may take up to one hour. Do not close the Data Collector interface. When the discovery completes, click Save. If you make changes to trend extensions or add more objects to Johnson Controls after this discovery completes, you must repeat these steps. Subsequent discoveries will add new objects, not overwrite existing configuration settings.
    Note: Within the Data Collector configuration interface, you can also edit specific points. To edit specific points, complete the following steps:
    • Click a point in the table to edit the name, unit type, and unit for that point.
    • Click Update to save the changes.
    • Select the Sync check box to enable data retrieval for an engine. You may want to deselect this option if you do not want to enable data retrieval, for example, if you want to retrieve data for only one engine, then you can deselect the Sync check box for all of the other engines.

Results

If you want to add new engines and data points, complete the following steps:
  1. Add the trend extensions in Johnson Controls.
  2. In the Data Collector configuration interface, navigate to the Device/Point tab.
  3. In the Data source type drop-down list, select Metasys.
  4. In the Data source drop-down list, select the data source.
  5. In the table of engines, locate the new engine and select the Sync check box for that engine.
  6. At the bottom of the screen, click Discover points.

OpenBlue Enterprise Manager discovers the new points. Allow a few minutes for this process, depending on the quantity of new points. Next, launch EM and begin configuring spaces and meters. For more information, refer to the OpenBlue Enterprise Manager Configuration Guide (LIT-12012432).
