The following software licensing information applies to existing or new customers who use the value-based, dynamic pricing model:
- Companion software is provided and activated through cloud-based licenses that the customer subscribes to. Order software subscriptions through your Johnson Controls channel representative. All licenses are inclusive of software, technical support, maintenance, and revision releases for the options that a customer subscribes to.
- Newly placed subscriptions are active from the date that you activate the license.
- Upon successful creation of a license subscription, the customer receives email communication with the license key.
- License activation impacts the Companion mobile app, desktop, kiosks, admin portal, and application services deployed for the subscription.
- Licenses do not automatically renew. You must renew the licenses at the end of the agreement. During the renewal of an existing subscription, you can modify subscription details, and add or remove options and users.
- 30 days before a license is set to expire, the customer receives notice of the expiration in the form of an email communication. Users logged into the admin portal also receive the following message: Your Companion license subscription is about to expire in 30 days. To renew the subscription, please contact a Johnson Controls representative.
- If the user does not renew within the allotted time frame, a grace period of 30 days goes into effect. During this time, users cannot log in to the Companion app, desktop, and admin portal, and only Companion application services run. After the 30th day, the backend services cease. When administrators try to log in, they see a screen notification that the subscription has expired and a message that advises them to contact their Johnson Controls representative.
