About this task
When a field controller is running with adaptive tuning enabled, but is not controlling properly and cannot maintain setpoint within the deadband, possible causes include the PID not having control of the output, an improper process ID, or response issues with the mechanical system. To remedy this issue, first troubleshoot the system and address any problems you find (see Troubleshooting), then reset the tuning parameters. The steps for resetting the tuning parameters vary depending on the release of CCT/PCT you are currently using. See the following sections for steps to reset the tuning parameters:
- For CCT/PCT Release 5.0 and later in applications created with CCT/PCT standards, see Resetting Tuning Parameters at CCT/PCT Release 5.0 and Later (Standard Applications)
- For CCT/PCT Release 5.0 and later in applications where the Network Input does not exist or is not connected to the tuning reset input of the PID, see Resetting Tuning Parameters at CCT/PCT Release 5.0 and Earlier (No Network Input or Tuning Reset Connection)
- For CCT/PCT Release 4.1 and earlier, see Resetting Tuning Parameters at CCT/PCT Release 4.1 and Earlier
Note: If you have difficulty following the steps in any of these sections, you can reset the tuning parameters by transferring the application to the controller again.
