About this task
It is necessary to have an application, CAF file, open to select a device.
Procedure
-
Click Define Hardware. The Define Hardware dialog box opens with the Controller Selection tab active.
Note: The Define Hardware button disables if the open CAF file requires an upgrade and hardware is undefined.
-
Click Select next to the Field Device row. The Field Device dialog box appears.
Note: If the device is unlicensed, it will not appear in the selection.
-
Select the desired field device and click OK. The Add Device dialog box appears.
Note: If the application you are in contains objects that the selected controller does not support, a dialog box appears to warn you that the object will be deleted. This dialog box appears in one of the two following scenarios. One scenario is when objects will be deleted from the application, for example, trends and schedules. These objects exist outside of the Control Sequence. The other scenario is when objects that the tool does not delete exist in the application. These objects exist inside the Control Sequence and affect the behavior of the application.
- Enter a device name and click OK. The device name appears in the Field Device field.
- Verify that the devices you select meet the requirements of the selected system in the Hardware Slot Summary. If any of the fields are red, add an I/O Module to support the System Selection.
-
Click Add Device next to the SA
Bus Devices section. The SA Bus Device Selection Dialog Box appears. If the device is unlicensed, it does not
appear in the selection.
Different steps apply to the different devices. Follow the steps listed here for the specific device type to add.
For an I/O Module device:
- Select the I/O Module device and click OK. The Add Devices screen appears.
For a Local Display:
A Local Display is always defined for the system and cannot be removed. You cannot have more than one Local Controller Display in the system. For a Network Sensor device (Network Duct Sensor, Network Zone Sensor, and Network CO2 Sensor):
- Select the Network Sensor device and click OK. The Define Sensor dialog box appears.
-
Select the Sensor Type from
the drop-down list. The Input and Output point check box options load automatically
based on your selection. The standard points associated with your Sensor Type are
selected and highlighted.
Note: For certain network sensors such as NetSensor, NetVSD, and NetRCM, avoid the Generic Sensor type unless you are a more advanced user. This is a best practice because these types of sensors come with default values on all properties that you configure.
-
Select the check boxes next to the points you want to associate
with your Network Sensor device.
Note: To add multiple Network Sensors to your SA Bus in one continuous workflow, select the Add Another check box before you click Add Sensor.
- Click Add Sensor and the Define Senor dialog box closes.
For a Wireless Refrigerator/Freezer Temperature Transmitter and Probe Assembly device (Network Zone Sensor):
Note: Wireless Refrigerator/Freezer Temperature Transmitter and Probe Assemblies are considered Network Zone Sensors. You can monitor the temperature of up to four coolers or four freezers or a combination of both.- Select the Network Zone Sensor device and click OK. The Add Devices dialog box appears.
- Select the check boxes next to the Cooler X or Freezer X (where X is 1-4) applications you want and click OK. The Controller Selection tab within the Hardware Definition screen appears with the selected device in the SA Bus Devices text box.
For a Wireless Sensor device (Network Zone Sensor):Note: Wireless Sensors are considered Network Zone Sensors.- Select the Network Zone Sensor device and click OK. The Add Devices dialog box appears.
- Select the check boxes next to the applications you want and click OK. The Controller Selection tab within the Hardware Definition screen appears with the selected device in the SA Bus Devices text box.
For a Network VSD/VFD device:
- Select the Network VSD device and click OK. The Add Devices dialog box appears.
- Select the check boxes next to the applications you want and click OK. The Controller Selection tab within the Hardware Definition screen appears with the selected device in the SA Bus Devices text box.
For a Romutec I/O Module device:
- Select the Romutec I/O Module device and click OK. The Add Devices dialog box appears.
-
Optional: You can edit the following fields:
- In the Device Name field, enter a new device name.
- For Quantity, adjust the slider bar for the number of devices. If you want to add more than five devices, click the to open the Set Maximum Quantity Dialog Box and adjust the slider bar to set the maximum quantity.
- In the Starting Index field, enter a new value for the I/O modules you are adding to the system.
- Click OK. The Controller Selection tab within the Hardware Definition screen appears with the selected device in the SA Bus Devices text box.
Note: After completing all of the steps in the Hardware Definition screen, update the signal for the Romutec I/O Module. To change the signal, right-click the input in the Control View or Inputs list of your Perspective, and select Modify Signal. Choose the proper signal that begins with RT (for example, RT 0-10VDC or RT 0-20mA).For a Generic Tier 4 SA Bus Device:
Prerequisite: Generic SA Bus Devices such as an NS8000 appear as a Generic device type in the SA Bus Device Selection dialog box.- Select the device and click OK. The Define Sensor dialog box appears.
- Select the Sensor Type from the drop-down list. The Input and Output point check box options load automatically based on your selection. The standard points associated with your Sensor Type are selected and highlighted.
-
Select the check boxes next to the points you want to associate
with your generic SA Bus device.
Note: To add multiple devices in one continuous workflow select the Add Another check box before clicking the Add Sensor button.
- Click Add Sensor and the Define Sensor dialog box closes.
- If necessary, modify points on the SA Bus Device. See Modifying Points on an SA Bus Device.
- Click Close to close the screen.
