For a non-integrated waterside economizer, chilled water is either provided by a chiller or by a heat exchanger, but not simultaneously. Chillers and heat exchangers may either be headered or dedicated (see the following figures). Up to four heat exchangers may be staged up and down to meet the building load. The total number of controlled devices (chillers plus heat exchangers) cannot exceed eight devices.
