About this task

A BLM can transfer a license ordered by a branch to a customer of the branch (customers are associated with a branch if they are linked to that branch). A BLM can also search for a customer not associated with the branch and transfer the license to that customer. The search is performed against all direct customers in Salesforce. A BLM cannot transfer a license to an ABCS or a customer of an ABCS. When a BLM transfers a license, you can select the customer's parent account, any child accounts of the parent, or any locations associated with either a parent account or child account. Once a license is transferred to a parent, child or location, the selected parent child or location is considered the location for the license and the name of the parent, child or location is displayed in the Location column in the Licenses tab for that customer. To transfer the ownership of a software license, complete the following steps:


  1. In the Actions column, click the Choose Action menu.
  2. Click Transfer License. The Transfer License dialog box appears.
    Note: The Transfer License dialog box displays the product name, product code, and version of the software product. It also displays the system ID and machine tag for activated licenses.
  3. Enter a customer name or search for the customer, and select where the license should be transferred.
  4. Click Transfer License. The Confirm License Transfer dialog box appears.
    Note: You can select only one customer. Once a license is transferred, it no longer appears in the Licenses tab or Machines tab of that organization.
  5. Verify the information is correct and click Transfer. A successful or unsuccessful confirmation message appears.
