About this task

After planning and installation of the wireless system, complete the following steps to commission the system.

Note: Leave power off the wireless field components until ready to begin commissioning the network. This aids in forming the network and avoid dead spots and weak signal paths.
Note: Disconnect the IP/Ethernet cable from the WRG to minimize traffic to the WRG from the supervisor, if recommended during checkout.

Procedure

  1. Power up the WRG1830 Gateway and connected ZFR1831 Coordinator Radio.
  2. Power up the ZFR Pro Routers/Repeaters (shows a blue LED with one flash per second).
  3. Do not power up the WRZ and NSW8000 Sensors until the wireless network is ready to be opened up to discover devices.
Note: Turning on the WRZ and NSW8000 Sensors before the wireless mesh is formed and operating depletes the battery prematurely as the WRZ and NSW8000 Sensor tries to find the mesh network.
  4. For security reasons, the PAN is locked and does not allow new devices to join the network. So before adding new ZFR1831s, TECs, WRZ Sensors, or NSW8000 Sensors to the PAN, the PAN network must be open for joining. The network can be opened in one of the following ways:
    • If the LED on any ZFR1831 is yellow, press the Join Pin on the side of the device.
Note: By default, only the Coordinator’s LED is yellow. Refer to the ZFR1831 Pro Series Wireless Router 6 Installation Guide Part No. 24-11461-00004 for more information about the LED functions and colors.
    • From the WRG UI Device List page, select the epsilon in the upper right and Add Devices.
  5. Once the PAN is open for joining, the LEDs on all of the ZFR1831s that have already joined the network turn RED. This indicates that the network is accepting new devices onto the PAN. The ZFR JOIN ENABLE LED on the WRG also turns red.
  6. In approximately a minute, the new ZFR1831 to be added joins the PAN and the LED shows red. It blinks 1, 2, or 3 times to indicate signal strength.
Note: After joining the PAN, the LED may turn aqua. This is an indication that new firmware is being downloaded to the ZFR1831. This is happening in the background and should not interfere with its operation.
Note: After an hour of no new devices being added to the PAN, the network locks down again and the LEDs on the ZFRs turns green.
Note: The Join Time duration can be set up to 8 hours on the WRG UI.
  7. Turn on WRZ and NSW8000 Sensors using the DIP switch. The sensors locate the nearest parent device on the wireless mesh in approximately 15 minutes.
  8. Use WRG Device Screen to validate all sensors are online.
    • If any sensors have not come online, initiate a signal strength test with the associated ZFR Pro Router. Press and hold the manual occupancy override button on the WRZ or NSW8000 Series Sensor for 5 seconds or more, then release the button. After you release the button, the signal strength code displays.
    • For Warmer/Cooler NSW8000 models, press both buttons simultaneously for 5 seconds or more, then release the buttons. One, two, or three flashes indicate the sensor joined the network.
    • On LCD models, the signal strength is shown on the display on the face of the sensor.

  9. Backup the WRG1830. Refer to the Backup and Restore section of the WRG1830/ZFR183x Pro Series Wireless Field Bus User’s Guide (LIT-12013550) for details about how to back up the WRG.
Important: If you do not have an offline backup file for the WRG and you replace the WRG or its ZFR1831, you must perform a physical reset of all WEFC connected on that PAN and recommission the network. This is due to security certificates being mis-aligned between WRG and WEFCs.
